This has been a VERY long week for us and I am so glad things are back to normal. Making it 6 months without so much as a stuffy nose is very humbling (aside from the acid reflux) for our family. This week, however, was very different. It all started Monday when I took Easton in to get his 6 month shots. He did fine afterwards and was acting completely normal til that night. At about 6 oclock after he ate dinner he started vomiting. I may have lost track, but I'm pretty sure he vomited 8 times within two hours. I read the paper about his vaccines and it did mention that vomiting could be a reaction to the shots he received earlier that day.
Later that night consisted of two parents not sure what to do, a baby who was very hungry, but also a baby who could not keep his food down. Tuesday morning finally came and I talked to the pediatrician and Jameson's mom who both said to give him little bits of Pedialyte all day to keep his little body from becoming dehydrated. He had thrown up a little that morning, but throughout the day Tuesday it seemed like he was taking the Pedialyte well and was keeping it down. Tuesday night we fed him a bottle before bed, which he took well and kept down. Things were looking up!
Or so I thought...
Wednesday came and he had a bottle that morning, which he took and kept down. Then after his morning nap he woke up and when I tried to feed him he just was NOT interested. He pushed it away with his hands and got mad when I showed it to him. I just figured I would wait it out and he will be hungry again later. An hour later he was very tired and ended up falling asleep sitting in my lap. So I put him down for his second nap and woke him up a few hours later to try and get him to eat. He was still not interested. I tried Pedialyte and a bottle and he refused both. By this time I am a little worried he wasn't getting back on track like I thought he was. I tried some rice cereal to see if he would eat from a spoon and he did. Yay! I tried to make him a little more, but then he didn't want it. Then I started to notice he was acting sort of lethargic and sleepy again so I put him down for his 3rd nap. I had to wake him again around 5 when Jameson got home to feed him dinner. He STILL was NOT interested. By now he really hasn't eaten anything since 8am and the day before he did not have much either. We decided to take a medicine dropper and see if he would eat some formula that way. After a few times of denying it we finally got him to take some food from the dropper. But then after he was all done about a minute later he threw it up. ALL OF IT. It was everywhere! I went upstairs to clean him up while Jameson called his mom. He told her what happened and she told us we should come in to the hospital to make sure everything was okay.
We arrived at the hospital a little after 7. After being checked out by the PA, Jameson's mom and one of the nurses gave Easton an IV with fluids and Zofran for the nausea. Jameson and I left because neither of us wanted to watch him being poked. We had to wait an hour for him to get all the fluids through his body. Here you can see he was very tired...

After an hour on fluids, we were allowed to give him some Pedialyte. He could not get it fast enough and was getting mad we weren't giving him more. This was a very good sign that his appetite was back and he was doing much better. Later, the PA came in again and she said the hospital had been seeing lots of kids lately with the stomach flu. Lots of vomiting and diarrhea. My guess is he picked it up Monday at the doctor's office. Isn't it ironic that people usually go to the doctor to feel better, not to get sick!
Anyways, we got home late that night and gave him a little more Pedialyte before finally putting him down for bed. He ended up sleeping the whole night and Thursday morning he was back to his normal self. Slowly we've been getting him back on his regular diet and he is doing great.
The stomach flu is definitely going around because although Easton was better, Jameson woke up Thursday morning vomiting. Stomach flu is the devil! Luckily I did not get anything. It is now Friday and the sick house is no more! Here's to not making a habit of going to the hospital. We told Easton from now on if he wants to see Grandma Hunter he doesn't have to get sick to do it!
